 CATEGORY : CONTROLS FOR PRESSES

M7450 Peak Tonnage Monitor Module
Cost-effective PLC plug-in load monitor allows complete integration of load information with PLC.

Load Monitoring

The Load Monitor Module is a PLC plug-in module designed to monitor  loads on a mechanical press. The module measures load through the load sensors mounted on the load bearing  members of the press. The module  compares the measured load against user programmed limits for press  protection, die protection, and process trends. If the measured load is outside the programmed limits, the module deenergizes the appropriate fail-safe output, which can be used to stop the press, warn the operator, and/or signal a supervisory control.

Integration & Flexibility

When used in a press control system that uses a PLC, the Module offers advantages over stand-alone solutions. Since the Module is plugged-in a Modicon PLC rack, the PLC has complete access to load monitoring information, including limits, alarms, actual tonnage, etc.

The Module is setup through the PLC, and the setup can be easily backed up along with the rest of the PLC program. Once the load information is in the PLC, the user has more flexibility in using it. For example, it can be displayed on an operator interface, sent to a computer over the network, etc.

Load Sensors-4 to 20 mA
AVG Autotech uses industry standard strain-gage sensors to read tonnage, but the similarities to competitive products ends right here. AVG Autotech's sensors have a built-in amplifier to give a 4 to 20 mA output, available on a terminal block. Other sensors have an internally terminated cable coming out of the sensor. These have to be prespecified in length as the cable cannot be "spliced." AVG Autotech sensors can be connected to the M7450 via standard shielded cables.

Counters Track Production
The module has two counters for count-ing the total number of parts, as well as the number of good parts made. A part is considered "Good" if it did not cause any alarm or fault during stamping.

Multiple Setup Storage Makes Job Changeover Easy
The M7450 Peak Tonnage Module can store up to 200 independent, user-defined setups. It can also accept a PLC command to select a setup.
